Getting left behind? CSR communications in Switzerland undermined by low transparency

The performance of Swiss companies in the 7th edition of the CSR Online Awards is undermined by a lack of transparency, an issue that has not improved since our previous edition of the research two years ago.

The top of the ranking of 57 leading Swiss companies – published today in association with Bilanz magazine – remains little changed from the past. Nestlé maintains its dominance in the top spot (63.5 points), comfortably beating Roche (55.25) and Credit Suisse (52.5) into 2nd and 3rd place respectively. But the wider picture is marred by the fact that a majority of the companies we studied don’t meet basic levels of non-financial transparency on environmental, social and governance topics, either online or in formal reports.

Digital transparency test for non-listed companies continues into fourth year – inclusions & deadlines

In line with increasing demands for accountability and transparency, Webranking by Comprend will continue to include and assess major non-listed companies in Italy and Switzerland. For the first time, Austrian non-listed companies will also be assessed. The ranking is conducted by Lundquist.

Noting the pivotal role that Italy, Switzerland, and Austria’s non-listed companies play in their respective economies, this is the fourth year (and first year for Austrian companies) that Webranking takes an in-depth look at a section of companies that have an important impact on society, culture and economy.

Webranking by Comprend is Europe’s most in-depth annual analysis of online financial and corporate communication, covering the largest companies by market capitalization and largest non-listed companies in Europe and globally. Find out if your company is included below.

Into the sustainability labyrinth: Lundquist event provides guidance on a distinctive response to mandatory reporting

It’s a critical moment for corporate sustainability in Italy and companies turned out in force at an event we held in Milan last week to hear how to turn this year’s legal obligation on non-financial transparency into an opportunity.

We hosted over 60 participants from 38 registered companies at TIMSpace for a morning of presentations and conversations about the merits of a distinctive approach to sustainability for the benefit of the entire business, covering topics of sustainability strategies, non-financial reporting, stakeholder engagement and communications. Entitled “Nel Labirinto della Sostenibilità” (In the Sustainability Labyrinth), the event warned about the dangers of having a narrow, compliance-oriented response to the requirements of the Italian decree mandating reporting on some social and environmental matters (read our blog post on how the decree is changing the Italian sustainability scenario – in Italian.)

The best leave the rest behind: sustainability leaders unveiled in 7th CSR Online Awards Italy

Published exclusively in leading Italian business daily Il Sole 24 Ore, the 7th Italian edition of the CSR Online Awards has identified companies that are leading the way in adopting digital as a strategic asset for sustainability and revealed successful approaches in the use of social media and digital storytelling. The study sounds a warning about a broader lack of transparency among Italy’s biggest companies, both in terms of non-financial reporting and online transparency.
